Three rules to avoid wasting seasonal produce

  • Buy a little, often: seasonal fruit is ripe and keeps for less time than fruit picked unripe.
  • Keep fast-ripening fruit (bananas, apples, pears) away from vegetables: it makes everything else ripen too.
  • When it's overripe, don't throw it away: smoothies, quick jams, sauces and soups.
