Practical guides
π₯ How long does fresh milk last?
Guideline times for a product stored properly, with the fridge at 4 Β°C or below.
| Where | How long |
|---|---|
| In the fridge, unopened | until the date on the label |
| Once opened (in the fridge) | 2β3 days |
| In the freezer | up to 3 months |
To make it last longer
- Keep it on a middle shelf, not in the door: the temperature there changes every time you open it.
- Close the bottle properly straight after pouring.
- It can be frozen: leave room in the bottle as it expands, and thaw it in the fridge. Shake before use.
When to throw it away
Sour smell, sharp taste, lumps when you heat it.
These are general guidelines and don't replace what's written on the pack: if the label says something different, follow the label. "Use by" is a real expiry date; "best before" is about quality. If in doubt, don't eat it. The difference between the two dates β
