Practical guides
π How long does cooked rice last?
Guideline times for a product stored properly, with the fridge at 4 Β°C or below.
| Where | How long |
|---|---|
| Cooked, in the fridge | within 24 hours |
| In the freezer | up to 1 month |
To make it last longer
- Cool it quickly (within an hour) by spreading it on a plate, then put it in the fridge.
- Reheat it only once, until it's piping hot all the way through.
- If you won't eat it the next day, freeze it in portions as soon as it has cooled.
When to throw it away
Rice is one of the few leftovers to be careful with: if it has been out of the fridge for hours, throw it away even if it looks fine.
These are general guidelines and don't replace what's written on the pack: if the label says something different, follow the label. "Use by" is a real expiry date; "best before" is about quality. If in doubt, don't eat it. The difference between the two dates β
