Practical guides
π₯ How long do eggs last?
Guideline times for a product stored properly, with the fridge at 4 Β°C or below.
| Where | How long |
|---|---|
| In the fridge | until the date on the label |
| Cooked, in the fridge | up to 7 days |
| In the freezer | up to 6 months |
To make it last longer
- Eggs carry a "best before" date, set at most 28 days after laying.
- Keep them in their box, not in the fridge door, and don't wash them before storing.
- Freeze them only out of the shell: beaten, in a container, with the date. Never whole in the shell.
- When the date gets close, use them well cooked: omelettes, quiches, cakes.
When to throw it away
Cracked or slimy shell, an unpleasant smell when you crack it: throw it away. Hard-boiled eggs (in the shell) should be eaten within a week.
These are general guidelines and don't replace what's written on the pack: if the label says something different, follow the label. "Use by" is a real expiry date; "best before" is about quality. If in doubt, don't eat it. The difference between the two dates β
