Practical guides
π§ How long does mozzarella last?
Guideline times for a product stored properly, with the fridge at 4 Β°C or below.
| Where | How long |
|---|---|
| In the fridge, unopened | until the date on the label |
| Once opened (in the fridge) | 1β2 days |
| In the freezer | not recommended |
To make it last longer
- Once opened, keep it in its liquid in a closed container.
- Take it out of the fridge half an hour before eating: it tastes better.
- If there's some left, use it cooked: pizza, baked pasta, savoury pies. Frozen, it loses texture and is only good for cooking.
When to throw it away
Cloudy or stringy liquid, slimy surface, sour smell or taste.
These are general guidelines and don't replace what's written on the pack: if the label says something different, follow the label. "Use by" is a real expiry date; "best before" is about quality. If in doubt, don't eat it. The difference between the two dates β
